Bio: I grew up in Buckinghamshire, England and I was fortunate enough to have parents who both loved to read. I was even more fortunate to be one of 6 children which meant there were always loads of books available to me. English Literature was my favourite subject at school and so obviously when I went to college I did nothing whatsoever to do with writing or Literature. I decided not to go to university, partly because i didn't know what to do there. Since then I have worked in an office and spent my spare time making up stories for my friends for fun. As I approached my 30th birthday, a voice in my head told me to start thinking seriously about what I wanted to do with my life. I found a creative writing course online, and here I am! Learning the techniques I need to turn my silly bedtime stories into proper published books. I have finished my writing course (I passed!) and have my sights set on a Degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. I also hope to publish my first book later on this year. Exciting Times!!

  4. Aw, this was an exceptionally nice post. Taking the time and actual
    effort to generate a top notch article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a whole lot
    and don’t manage to get nearly anything done.

  6. Oh, I’ve been there. I used to make up stories for a friend of mine, who passed away from cancer. I was thinking of resurrecting those stories but she had all the hard copies. I used to send them to her in the mail. Good luck with your writing. I see kate Loveton is interested in your work. I know Kate and she’s a darling. She reviews my stuff and I always feel great afterwards. Lucy

  7. Hi Naomi. I just saw a comment you wrote on Bob Mayer’s blog, and felt like I had to stop by to throw in my two cents worth of advice regarding publishing.

    Last year, I was in the same boat as you.

    Then I heard about self-publishing. I met some indie authors online. I listened. And I learned.

    Now I’m self-publishing my very first book of short stories. In fact, last night I uploaded my ebook, Risky Issues, to Amazon. I’m now in the “waiting” stage. Apparently, it’s in the process of being published to the Kindle store as I type this! How exciting that in 12 hours or less, I will officially be a published author!

    While there are many options for authors out there nowadays, including all the time-consuming stuff that goes along with traditional publishing, independent publishing is on the rise. No agent. No query letters. No contracts to be tied to. Instead, you have control and freedom.

    And indie authors are helpful, too. “Cooperation, not competition” is the motto of many.

    When you are done with Camp Nano, you might want to give self-publishing a shot.

  11. Naomi, Thanks for following my blog. I look forward to keeping up with the progress you are making. I am in my late 30’s and still do not know what to “do with my life”. I love that you are going for gold!

  13. I’m uncannily like you. I also grew up around many books and book lovers, also loved Literature at school, and I also decided not to do anything literature-related at college. So glad I found you here.
